Avalanche-Skitur Days for Ukraine – Outdoor Magazine

Avalanche-Skitur Days for Ukraine

For two years, due to the pandemic, our training meeting in Five Ponds was not held. This year we already had everything planned, when the war came. After long discussions, we came to the conclusion that we will organize the Days in a new formula – for all of us to find a respite in the mountains in these difficult times, but most importantly – for the war-stricken Ukraine and the refugees from that country who need help.

Accordingly, proceeds from the event will be donated to the Ocalenie Foundation, which works extensively to help Ukraine. Each person signing up for the training will be asked to throw an amount of money into the can as they see fit. All proceeds from the sale of apple pie at the Shelter on the weekend of April 9-10 will also be donated to the Foundation. Our Instructors will work without pay, and Sponsors will also donate additional products that we will donate to help, m.in. freeze-dried food, NRC foils, mattresses, sleeping bags or headlamps.

So we would like to invite all mountain people to the 9. Avalanche-Skitur Days for Ukraine on April 9-10, 2022 to PTTK Hostel in the Valley of Five Ponds in the Tatra Mountains.

Under the guidance of Instructors and Guides associated with the 5+Mountain School you will be able to learn the basics of avalanche knowledge, skydiving, navigation, winter tourism, as well as nature studies. Training will be divided into hour-long blocks in the field, as well as lectures, meetings and equipment tests. There will also be a special outdoor race with prizes and an avalanche debate on. backpacks and flotation vests.

Throughout the weekend we will be collecting funds for aid, our collection has already been reported to the Rescue Foundation. The more you come, the better we will help!

Training will be provided by mountain professionals – TOPR lifeguards, instructors of the Polish Mountaineering Association, IVBV International and Tatra guides. Led by Marcin Jozefowicz, Maciek Ciesielski, Andrzej Marasek and Przemek Cholewa and their experienced colleagues, you will learn about the safe world of winter activities in the Tatra Mountains.

In addition to the training sessions on Saturday, there will be ski and splitboard tests, outdoor companies will present novelties in avalanche and hiking equipment, and on Sunday it will be possible to rent freeride skis, skis or splitboards for individual trips. All activities are planned so that you can come down in the morning and spend the whole day in the most beautiful valley of the Tatra Mountains.
